Svartsot Discography

Svartsot is a viking folk metal band that formed in Randers, Denmark in 2005. To date they have released 2 demos and 2 albums. There musical style blends death and black metal with Nordic folk music. This band has a lot of musical depth and the variety of instrumentals (particularly the whistles and flutes) keeps it fresh. Also the rasping vocals and growls are pitch perfect and really come on even stronger during there awesome melodies. There first album, Ravnenes Saga was a huge surprise as when I listened to the demos I was expecting another formulaic, paint by numbers folk metal act. It was very original and the definite shining star of this album was the rhythmical sound mixed to their vocals. My favourite tracks were "gravøllet" and "jotunheimsfærden" as the melody and chorus in both were quite awesome. There next album, Mulmets Viser would see some lineup changes and as such the bands original lineup that made the first album would be entirely different with the exception of the guitarist. With all this change there isn't much deviation in between the two albums with exception of some better written lyrics and melodies on this first. This though is vindictive of experience and they would once again be a relatively young band once again. My favourite tracks are "kromandens datter (really sweet opening on guitars)" and "den døde mand (just heard it today. I never knew the digipacks had 2 bonus tracks)". Though the first is my favourite, the second trails close behind it. They are a solid 9/10 on the first and 7/10 on the second.
This post is of course in preparation for the new album that is set to drop on the 27 this month. Hopefully our fellow pirates will give us a sooner date. \m/
