Excommunion - Superion (2001)

What can i say? Simply Brutal excellent DM that takes a slow, churning pace rather than a super fast one, creating an atmosphere of an army surging forward (maybe? Thats just me). Although, they do have their fast points. This album has some great DM songs on it, very fiery and skullcrushing DM songs. A bit more traditional DM than other bands . Almost along the lines of Dehumanized. Songs like "Serpent of the Deep", just beautifully brutal. "Suffering Unto the Damned"? How can one go wrong, the melody at the beginning is enough to cause strange feelings of wanting to smash shit all over the place. However, like most DM, what makes me give this an 85 is that after a little while, it gets repetitive, like most DM. I would say that if you are going to look for a DM band that is not ultra fast, but you still want the brutality of earlier acts such as Morbid Angel, Deicide, Dehumanized, and whatnot, this album is for you. If you are a fan of super fast, technical DM, i would not recommend this album to you.
