Deathbound’s new album,
Non Compos Mentis (their fourth full-length effort), is an effective slab of Gothenburg-esque death metal from Finland, as it is copiously complimented with death ‘n’ roll, brutal death metal, and grindcore passages that, if you are a fan of the subgenre, will more than satisfy you—especially if you are a fan of Rotten Sound and are impatiently waiting for their next album. While it may leave you wanting more, as, while the album contains fourteen tracks, only one of them, the nicely titled opening track “I Hate Them Still,” passes the three minute mark by four seconds. Still, though, the album certainly does not wear out its welcome and its concise effectiveness portends a 2010 that will be ripe with good, but
not of sound mind, metal—or so I
hope, anyway.
