Skeleton Of God are probably one of the weirdest death metal bands today.They're pretty unknown, even though they formed in the early 90s and released a kickass EP about 16 years ago; they remain one of the most criminally overlooked old death metal bands in my book. This probably has to do with their style being pretty hard to approach - 'psychedelic death metal' isn't the simplest thing to grasp or to play, but they pull it off amazingly well. Explaining what they sound like is quite a task, I cleverly said they're like 'Demilich on acid' in a post made six months ago, but I guess that isn't too explanatory if you aren't familiar with Demilich. But then again, fuck you if you don't know Demilich. It's also a bit similar to Cephalic Carnage's trippier songs, with a stronger emphasis on the sludge/stoner part. Compared to Urine Garden, Primordial Dominion is somewhat less bizarre and has a distinct southern/bluesy vibe. It also maintains the eerie, gloom-saturated midtempo death metal feel alternating with doom passages with several atmospheric sound effects and occasional bursts of grind perfected on their earlier albums, so they haven't turned their back on the previously established awesomeness. It's one long song, aptly dissected into 11 titled shifts in mood / atmosphere. The premise / concept is: a dark and enlightening psychedelic journey I had while "traveling" on a potent dose of salvia divinorum. If you're not familiar with this particular medicine / psychedelic, I recommend trying it; be cautious and have a someone there to watch over you, enjoy, if you dare.You bet your ass I'm doing this! Also, do you see that cover? I assure you, the music is at least as awesome as the artwork.
This album is absolutely overwhelming and immersive, it should definitely not be missed; except maybe if you're one of those cumshitters who prefers cheap Suffo/Deeds 'brutal tech' ripoffs, siqq breakdowns, generic new Swedish or Polish or whatever 'retro' DM that fails to be authentic, badly produced wiggerslam, songs consisting entirely of sweepz & grav-blasts, 'True National Socialist Hateful Satanic Misanthropic Black Metal', and other unimportant garbage. Burn your music collection, get this and prepare a few dozen tissues because you'll need 'em.
