Die Knappen - Auf Kohle Geboren (2010)

Die Knappen is the new project from Tom AngelRipper from Sodom and a lot of friends, the style of the group is Heavy Metal but in the songs you must explore good thrash metal passages and headbanging riffs, is a good release, share your reviews.

The Acacia Strain - Wormwood (2010)

On a recent press release for Acacia Strain’s latest album Wormwood, there was one comment that stood out regarding the Massachusetts band’s ability to “embody anger.” Certainly vocalist Vincent Bennett seems to be one pissed off individual with every vitriolic phrase he utters, but that aspect of the Acacia Strain shouldn’t take away from the other unbelievable elements to the 12 new tracks. While the core songwriting is strong throughout, it is the forward-thinking guitar work of Daniel “DL” Laskeiwitz that takes Wormwood to a whole other level of creativity. What you’ll notice from the opening track “Beast” to the sludgy goodness of the instrumental closer “Tactical Nuke” is the astoundingly effective guitar tones. The sounds seem deeper and meatier than ever before, and apparently there is a reason behind it all. Laskeiwitz experimented with 8-string guitars on Wormwood this time around, adding a whole new dimension to the usual drop tuning you might hear on metal records these days. Laskeiwitz doesn’t necessarily deliver the typical riffage, but instead uses his skills in a more cinematic fashion. Wormwood certainly incorporates plenty of what you might expect in a deathcore sound, whether it be the guttural groans courtesy of Bennett or double bass pedal accents that are used sparingly (making their effective more intense) by Kevin Boutot. While there are tracks like “Ramirez” that are driven by their aggressive nature alone, the bulk of the tracks on Wormwood have plenty of interesting approach to song arrangement. In pretty much every single one you’ll hear Laskeiwitz’s bizarrely wonderful effects that range from sounding celestial to diabolic. Highlights include “Jonestown,” “The Carpathian,” and the groaning “Tactical Nuke.” As the frontman for Acacia Strain, Bennett has a commanding presence – particularly because his groaned vocals are still fairly comprehensible throughout. There’s something to be said for that quality, particularly when the anger-fueled lyrics are a huge part of the message. But what really stands out amongst everything are the textured, rich guitar tones and effects that are peppered underneath each track. Laskeiwitz doesn’t get chained to monotonous riffs and that makes for an unpredictable and highly satisfying listening experience on Wormwood. His use of those 8-string guitars was a wise, wise choice on his part.

Diminished - Chainsaw Cunt (2010)

Texas has a reputation of having some of the sickest death metal bands around including Devourment, Viral Load, Insidious Decrepancy, Putrilage (RIP), Engaged in Mutilating just to name a few. Now, coming out of the Houston area is Diminished and their 2010 debut full length out on Sevared Records entitled "Chainsaw Cunt". The Diminished lineup at the time of recording was vocalist Michael Pinkard, guitarists Daniel Balle and Edward Martinez, bassist Marcus Gonzales and drummer Cesar Martinez however shortly after recording they replaced Cesar with current drummer Aaron Romo. Throughout "Chainsaw Cunt", Diminished shows some diversity in their musical writings. The music ranges from slower paced moshable slam/groove riffs, faster paced speedpicking and grinding, some lead guitarwork with a wah pedal and even a couple of acoustic portions such as the beginning of track three "Assumption of the Virgin". The ninth track entitled "All Is Not Lost" is actually an instrumental with clean rhythm guitars, bass and lead guitars. The vocals are ultra low gutturals that are being backed up by high screams similar to those screams from Origin. The production on "Chainsaw Cunt" was pretty good. You wouldn't think that this was their first recording. All the levels sounded pretty even. Yes the bass is even heard. A couple favorites for me were, in no particular order, the title track (track five) "Chainsaw Cunt", track eight "A Jar Full of Vaginas" and track ten "Anal Seepage" because of their slam hooks. All in all a pretty damn good piece of ear candy on their first effort. I look forward to hearing what they muster up next with their new drummer. Go check them out at the sites below and if you like what you hear pick up Diminished's "Chainsaw Cunt"

Scorngrain - Utopia.Paranoia.Perversions! (2010)

Grotesque Formation - Basement Decompositions (2008)

Ultra Brutal TXDM w/ Shawn Whitaker (Viral Load / Insidious Decrepancy, etc...) on vocals!! An Absolute must have!!!

Conducting From The Grave - Revenants (2010)

Conducting From The Grave is basically like your favorite metal band, only better. The breakdowns are more brutal, their solos are faster and more technical, their lyrics are more epic and their hooks are catchier. This CD is 44 minutes of pure unadulterated metal. I wish I could more critical of this cd, however, in my opinion this CD is perfect. Every song on this CD is just as brutal and technical as the previous song, and it continues to get better with every listen. "Revenants" is for fans of early All Shall Perish, Veil Of Maya, or Born Of Osiris, or if you simply like metal music, technical guitar work this album is for you.

Great news! Ulcerate prepare new album for us! Listen one new track!!!

Ulcerate will release their third full-length album The Destroyers of All on January 25 2011 through Willowtip Records. Ambitious, oppressive and expansive, with a strict adherence to the tradition of total bleakness the band is becoming known for, The Destroyers of All presents the most atmospheric and challenging listen from the band to date. In other news, we have reached a decision recently to part ways with live second guitarist Oliver Goater, although we are of course gracious for his work with us over the past 2 years. The album will be released as the core 3 writing members - we have however been working with a new live second guitarist, William Cleverdon - who is already proving to be an outstanding addition to the line-up. Live shows will commence in 2011.
The archive contains one new track from the album - "Dead Oceans"

A Forest of Stars - Opportunistic Thieves of Spring (2010) Re-upload (MY OWN CD-RIP)

Absolutely Godly. - 90%
Written by Perplexed_Sjel on June 12th, 2010

A Forest of Stars are one of the most interesting black metal bands on the British scene. Like Akercocke, a fellow British metal act, A Forest of Stars bring a lot of class to the scene in the United Kingdom. Their mixture of unusual music and stylish Victorian dress sense brings a lot of charisma and charm to the British side of metal, too. Their fresh take on metal music has been fantastic to witness and with the release of their 2008 full-length debut, entitled ‘The Corpse of Rebirth’, I just knew this band would have a lot to offer in the future. With their recent sophomore, entitled ‘The Opportunistic Thieves of Spring’, the band are living up to my grand expectations of them. When I first heard the debut, I was enthralled, but this album is even more engaging and even more weird than the debut! I wasn’t expecting these twists and turns to even occur on this album. What I had actually expected was an album that was in a similar mould to the previous but, perhaps apart from the growled vocals, the performance has seen a lot of new features added to it that give the band even more appeal and add to their sense of intrigue. A Forest of Stars - The Corpse of Rebirth (2008) Re-upload (MY OWN CD-RIP)

The production on this record is relatively clear and balanced. The guitars have just enough distortion, and the bass is audible beneath everything, which I always appreciate. I also really enjoyed the violin: the band uses it as a primary instrument throughout, just as a second guitar might be used. A flute is occasionally present as well, along with synth and piano. The drums are extremely crisp and clear, and I especially like the bass drum sound, which is subtle, yet just enough to add punch. The tracks with both violin and guitar sometimes seem a bit too treble-heavy, though, so maybe they could have used more of it? The vocals are right up-front in the mix, and are quite varied, from a harsh, tormented male voice to clean female vocals. This album represents a turning point in black metal history. The doors have been opened to more music of the same nature and that's something I will take delight in.

Bring Me The Horizon - There Is A Hell Believe Me I've Seen It, There Is A Heaven Let's Keep It A Secret (2010)

As a band, Bring Me The Horizon have been on a consistently upward trajectory, adding new elements to their metal core offerings in an effort to stand out from the rest of the pack in an interesting way. On their third album, There is a Hell Belive Me I've Seen It. There is a Heaven Let's Keep it a Secret, the Sheffield band's hard work pays off. Where other bands seem to have their production inflicted upon them, shoehorning in dance-pop synths and ubiquitous bass bombs, Bring Me the Horizon seamlessly integrate studio tricks into their music. Rather than feeling like items on a list of genre clichйs, the glitched out vocals on "Crucify Me" and "Blacklist" actually add an interesting element of controlled chaos to the songs. These may not seems like a huge leap, but it's little touches like these that push There is a Hell above the competition. The album doesn't live and die on studio trickery alone, though. Bring Me the Horizon bring a ton of intensity to the table with their songwriting, merging grimy hardcore punk with technical metal. The twist is that they don't bloat the songs out with breakdown after breakdown, but instead break up the songs with quieter, plaintively atmospheric passages. This helps to combat the "breakdown fatigue" that plagues so many albums, allowing the heaviest parts of the songs to have the proper impact. There is a Hell finds Bring Me the Horizon at the top of their game, and its lack of over indulgent production makes it an album that'll not only please fans of the band, but may surprise fans of bands like Converge who are interested in seeing what the kids are up to these days. ~ Gregory Heaney
Just one word - AWESOME!!!!!!!

All That Remains - ...For We Are Many (2010)

My overall impression is good, I enjoyed most songs on the album except they did change a little bit as in the lighter drums and more growling and also an odd guitar solo (considering their genre I mean). But all in all it is an excellent album and defiantly worth the buy but in my opinion, it is not as good as Overcome as Overcome was consistently good for every song while For We Are Many deviates slightly from song to song, sometimes its a heavy song and sometimes is a bit lighter. It was released today (October 12th, 2010 North America). I gave it an overall rating as a 9 which might be a bit high, but its all about personal preference. If you are debating on whether or not you should buy it, go listen to any of their more recent albums and if you like that, you will like For We Are Many.

Unholy black metal from France, Black and Blasphemic riffs, Listen and share your opinnion

Adramelech - Pure Blood Doom (1999)

Its been a year since Adramelech was posted last, so here is the follow up. Pure Blood Doom doesn't quite measure up to the standard of Psychostasia, but it is still a quality example of Finnish death. It keeps most of the qualities of the previous album but feels "tighter" and has higher production quality (not necessarily positive attributes). The songwriting is a bit less interesting in comparison but is still superior to most other death metal of the period. Not Adramelech's best but a very enjoyable listen.

The Black Dahlia Murder - Deflorate (2009)

The Black Dahlia Murder crosses the Atlantic again on “Deflorate” to pay homage to their favorite music. They don’t stray at all from their successful formula off their first three albums, nor have they really added anything new. That is perfectly fine, as they are laser-focused on playing a fast, heavy, and completely uncompromised style, and they clearly have a great time doing it. Their conviction is infectious. The blackened thrash is precise, heavy and well-written. The Black Dahlia Murder knows their job, and they do it well.

Fleshgrind - Destined For Defilement (1997)

This is classic. Fleshgrind is one of the better death/grind bands in the scene today. Since this CD came out, they have undergone a lineup change which hasn't weakened them at all. DESTINED FOR DEFILEMENT is an angry CD featuring some great riffs and a band that's very together, able to stop on a dime at a moment's notice. All the songs on here are great; my favorites are "Whacked", "Burning Your World" and "Litany Of Murder."

Origin - Origin (2000)

If that doesn’t tell you much about one of the most-adored, unmitigated, exceptionally singular and accomplished brains in death metal as a whole, then maybe you need a bit more info on who’s who of this quintet from the nether regions of existence. 1998 was the year when the creators of Origin, Mr Paul Ryan and Mr Jeremy Turner hit up an individual intension of framing something that had never been done before, that had never been even thought of, and hell, that can never be imitated by anyone else. Coupling their adept guitar thrashing knack and combining the thus obtained combative fury with Mr John Longstreth’s inexorable aggro-drumming animosity, Mr Mike Flores orgasmic basslines and Mr Mark Manning’s redefined vocalizing technique, Origin had risen up to a standard that’s not merely unthinkable, but unattainable too. Origin, as mentioned earlier, is a quintet. This is one of the chief reasons for the flawlessness of their music, as every band member can concentrate on his field of instrumentation in it’s entirety, including vocals. Like most fans of this band coin their music, Original death metal underlines the coherently formulated and meaningful work of ingenuity. What was once known as the Utopian grade of musicianship has finally been materialized by that stature of death metallers who have deeply and acutely understood death metal along with it’s very purpose. Suffice it to say, it’s only this stature of death metal that thrusts forward the genre to it’s Herculean extremities, and then some more. Nine songs of implicitly deviated lineament all packed into one CD of rip-roaring Original diatonic digest rising above the mighty forces of the Universe. Melody is out of question, get fucking slaughtered! (Original review)

Sadistic Torment - Unearthly Horrors (1996)

Bongzilla - Gateway (2002)

Marijuana is known as a "gateway" drug by those who think it leads to the use of heroin and other hard drugs, ie. unknowledgeable and prejudiced people who probably never smoked a spliff in their life. On the other hand, Gateway by Bongzilla is a collection smoke-shrouded weed anthems that linger somewhere in between sludge and stoner doom. Try it, c'mon. It's all good, and it won't ruin your life and force you to give homeless people handjobs for food.

Dungortheb - Waiting for Silence (2008)

Dungortheb is a French band that was completely unknown to me until about a week ago. The name is actually from a valley in JRR Tolkiens legendary world but do not be mistaken, it's in no shape or form any fantasy/power/viking/folk metal!
These dudes play technical death metal with some thrashy and melodic influences. The riffs are shreddy and melodic and most of the songs shift in tempo quite often, going into a sweet melodic aggressive rampage that really lifts the songs and gives them an angry touch. The whole production is great with none of this modern plastic-sounding production that seem to infest this beautiful genre, all the instruments are audible and actually sound real and allow me to add, awesome.
Terrific album on all levels, I for one can't wait for more.

Adam's Castle - ViCES -- BAND SUBMITTED

"I realize that while it's not as heavy hitting as most of the stuff on loadown, I'm more than happy to hear your thoughts. We've always had difficulty finding a "home" or a "label" for this music. That's part of the beauty, and curse, of not branding something any particular way. Adam's Castle is not for everybody, and you either love it or hate it. It's quite polarizing. But, if it evokes a response we're happy. We are artists but we have to let our audiences decided what to think. All we can hope for is that they think for themselves.
That said, I'd love to hear a review.

You can mention that Adam's Castle has regular drinking contests with the guys in Black Anvil if you wanna put a "heavy" tinge on your writeup. It's funny cause it's true."
Three guys playing 'experimental' instrumental music for the sake of wanting to play music. The above quote is from the email from a band member when I explained that you guys are jerks and may not 'take well' to this. Their sound is reminiscent of many bands - which makes their appeal that much greater. Best guess I can compare to right now are: Jaga Jazzist, Zu an a twinge of Mars Volta. While there are no vocals or brass instruments the band makes such a vibrant wall of sound it can easily stand on it's own. Layering effect & loop atop pyschadelic-esque rock-jam-hockeypuck-goodtimesrolling-free style fun they keep the beat up and a moving.
Hurrrrrrrr godawful description!
It's a complete change of pace from the norm here. But I imagine if you guys turned on some lights in the basement cave and took a few deep breaths - you'll all find this bands sound and appreciation for music quite good.
GET ON IT.

Forgotten Tomb Albums

Forgotten Tomb is an Italian blackened doom metal band, formed in Piacenza in 1999. The band's music has been compared to early Katatonia, Burzum and Dolorian's 1999 debut album When All the Laughter Has Gone. The lyrical themes revolve around depression and suicide. The band's founder, guitarist and vocalist Herr Morbid (Ferdinando Marchisio), describes himself as a "completely depressed, paranoid and suicide-fixated person".
Forgotten Tomb's debut recording, Obscura Arcana Mortis, was recorded by Herr Morbid as a solo undertaking in 1999. It was released the following year in CD format through Treblinka Productions and limited to 215 pieces. The band's first full-length album, Songs to Leave, was released in 2002 through Selbstmord Services. After several line-up changes, the album was followed by Springtime Depression in 2003 and Love's Burial Ground in 2004. Both albums were released through Adipocere Records. In 2006, Forgotten Tomb signed with Avantgarde Music and recorded its fourth full-length, Negative Megalomania. The album was released in January 2007.

ColdWorld - Melancholie (2009)

Titles like "Tortured by Solitude", "Hymn to Eternal Frost" and "My Dead Bride" suggest that this album, the first for German act ColdWorld, should be a pretty dreary and sombre affair with hints of deeply buried anger and frustration, like many other recordings blessed (or maybe cursed) with the "depressive black metal" label. First track "Dream of a Dead Sun' adheres quite closely to the broad template of depressive BM: at once solemn and melancholy yet brimming with hostility and potential malice thanks to a strong noisy barrage of BM guitars, efficient no-nonsense percussion and grim croaking BM vocals from ColdWorld man GB who handles just about everything here. There are hints though in the background voices and light synthesiser touches to demonstrate that ColdWorld is not merely any old depressive BM act and that GB has more, much more, to offer to this music.

Sotajumala - Teloitus (2007)

Last post of mine was real Swedish death from America, now how about some real American death from Finland. Nothing technical, no absolute focus on "brutality", certainly no attempt to be progressive - just pure Morbid Angel worship mixed with the best traditions of Finnish death metal. From start to finish, Teloitus rolls along at a full boil - in part due to a perfect performance by drummer Timo Häkkinen (envy his beard!). Teloitus could be seen as the ultimate mixture of Morbid Angel's Domination and Adramelech's Psychostasia (look for some more Adramelech in the next couple days).

Happy Face

Origin: France
Formed in: 2002
Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/happyfacemetal - which you won't be able to preview the old stuff on
Metallum: click

Happy Face have a unique style of deathgrind. They mix brutal death metal with meshuggah-esque time signatures, plam-muted deathcore breakdowns and add some grind for more variety. They have a very tight sound that makes the music immensely heavy. Recommended for people who want an unique blend of extreme metal with a huge mass.
Me with my stupid 'red shit' bumping another 'classic'.Maybe to much with the 'wig-slam-bullshit' for some, for everyone else, it's Happy Face. An yes, we're very aware their current sound is very different than the earlier - but that's why I'm bumping the older.

Benighted - Identisick (2006)

Now this is heavy... When you first listen to it, you'll probably feel like your forehead was smashed with a pneumatic drill. But that's just kewl. Of course there are melodies here and there, but the most important thing is, that it's brutal. Vocals are similar to other deathcore bands', deep guttural growling, and sometimes pig-squealing-like breeeeee. But here, the growling vocals are even deeper, like a bullfrog was doing it, and they're damn fast, and the breeee is faster too, and here and there there are vocals between the two kinds, and those are sometimes more dechiperable. I think there isn't even one weak song on this album. Nemesis is a mighty song, and it's so heavy and fast... like a train running over you repeatedly. Identisick is also great, mighty solos, everything is in the right place. Mourning Affliction is more melodic, and also very good, Ransack The Soul is a very fast song, it just crushes your skull, Iscarioth is also a more melodic one, whick slows down and gets even better and in every song, every little part is in the right place... In some songs, there are effects that you wouldn't even expect, like the latin american drums appearing in Sex-Addicted for a few seconds... Everything's just great. You must get this.

id_ bumping this majesty to break up the monotomy and remind you how awesome this -and everything else the band has done. Plus this post is 4 years old and still active.

Nachtvorst - Stills (2009)

An two-man project from Netherlands, unholy depressive black metal, nostalgic, pure and insane, highly reccomended, dark and melancholy passages, enjoy!!

Quo Vadis Full Lengths

Quo Vadis is a melodic technical death metal band from Canada. They play a fantastic style of music with simplistic, elegant yet techy riffs mixed with sparingly used vocals in the harsher regime. The guitar work is great with many memorable and wonderfully melodic riffs and solos, though it is slightly held back. And so are the vocals, to an even greater extent, but I still feel that the vocals comes through and put its marks on the songs. This is done to give room to, imo, some of the best drums ever written. It's just the epitome of my drumming taste with surging bass drum burst patterns that drives the songs forward together with terrific snare and cymbal work. There's such a great variation as well, you never get tired of listening to these drums because all of the parts fit together perfectly with the rest of the song elements. Almost every single track these guys have put out gives off an air of total completion and mastery.

Funebrarum - Beneath the Columns of Abandoned Gods (2001)

Real Swedish death metal from America. If you weren't a fan of Swedish death in 1990, this album wont make you a believer. On the other hand, fans of Nihilist, Carnage, Entombed, and Dismember should find this album to be a highlight reel of the best of Swedish death.
If I was to use one word to describe this album, it would be "guttural". Low guitars and deep vocals tear up from the bowels of every track. While a bit on the short side, Beneath the Columns never fails to deliver a high quality, old school death metal experience.

Electric Wizard are a stoner doom metal band from Dorset, England.
The history actually started in:
The oblivion and ecstasy of crushing doom and high grade marijuana, a sonic aural trip far, far away from this world, where only cyclopean walls of crackling vintage valve amplifiers set to the full overdrive and primal ritualistic beats can wash away all the filth and drudgery of everyday life. Their music can be described as Doom Metal. Their sound is a crushing behemoth of funeral march psychedelia. Violent, bleak and ritualistic.
Whoever wrote this on their last.fm page described it a lot better then I ever could.

tl;dr: Take drugs and listen to all/any of these.

Melechesh

In celebration of the release of Melechesh's newest album, here's a full discography of Melechesh. What started as a black metal band with Middle Eastern colorings has grown into rather unique sounding folk/black metal - during which time they got trolled out of Israel and moved to the Netherlands. While Norway is gushing with folk/black metal from every orifice, Melechesh sets itself apart by using traditional Arabic melodies, and in their newer albums, a full complement of traditional folk instruments. If you ignore the folk elements, they don't sound too dissimilar from Absu (they also shared a drummer at one point). If you're a fan of Nile, Absu, or are looking for a radically different take on the old folk/black metal approach, give this a shot.

Hedonistic Exility - Deevolutional Stasis (2010)

The guitarist from Dysphoria sent me a letter with a download-link to this album attached, adding that he's responsible for the guitars and vocals in this band. Since he was really brotastic about music sharing and stuff, I gave it a listen and it is pretty good! Beneath The Massacre style tech death with machine-like stop & go chugs, fast sweeps plus occasional inhaled vocals. Don't skip this if you're a fan of modern tech death.
This album was posted at the band's request.

Iron Monkey - Our Problem (1998)

Sludge with balls the size of Jupiter. Some call Iron Monkey Britain's answer to Eyehategod. It has all the southern groove and grit you can get, plus a beast on vocals. Johnny Morrow, said vocalist, died in 2002 and the band's split up since then, but Our Problem remains a respected masterpiece of sludge.
