After a false start at returning to metal prominence with their 2001 release, M-16, Sodom has finally returned with a mighty effort that stands up to the band's rich legacy, while thrusting their sonic assault directly into the modern age. Quite often, the sound of this long-running German trio has been compared to Slayer and with good reason; both groups emerged as being prominent during the same moment in metal history. Of course, both groups share a similar presence, with Sodom frontman Tom Angelripper having a vocal timbre that is very similar to that of Slayer's Tom Araya, but as the years have progressed, it must be noted that Sodom has branched out into being a different type of animal altogether.
